This icing is edible and can be used on cookies/cakes. It dries hard though, so if you don’t like to eat hard icing, don’t use it. It’s perfect for decorating ornaments or gingerbread houses, however. You don’t need to add the flavor if you are only decorating with it.
4 egg whites
4 cups confectioner’s sugar
1 tsp flavor (i.e. lemon, almond, vanilla, or peppermint extract, etc.)
Beat egg whites in clean, large bowl with mixer at high speed until foamy. Gradually add sugar and extract. Beat at high speed until thickened.
