1 tsp salt
1 cup shortening
1 egg yolk + milk to equal 2/3 cup
Combine flour, salt, and shortening. Add yolk mixture. Roll out ½ of dough and place in 5x10” pan. Sprinkle dough with 1 cup cornflakes.
Mix together 8 cups apple slices, ½ cup sugar (more or less, depending on tartness), 1 tsp cinnamon, and a dash of nutmeg. Spread apple mix over cornflakes. Roll out remaining dough and spread over apple mixture. Pinch top and bottom crust edges together. Beat egg whites and brush on top of crust. Sprinkle lightly with sugar. Bake at 375° for 50 minutes. Serve with ice cream, if desired.
