2 cup flour 1 cup water
2 cup sugar ½ buttermilk or sour milk
1 tsp soda 2 eggs
2 sticks butter 1 tsp vanilla
4½ T cocoa (heaping) (to make sour milk 1 c milk and 1 T lemon juice or
vinegar)
Sift together flour, sugar, and soda; set aside. Melt and boil: butter, cocoa and water, pour over dry ingredients and blend. Add buttermilk or sour milk, eggs and vanilla, beat until smooth. Bake in large greased and flour sheet cake pan (cookie sheet). Bake at 350° for 20 minutes, no longer. Frost while hot.
Frosting:
1 stick butter 6 T canned milk
2 T heaping cocoa 1 tsp vanilla
Powdered sugar
Melt and boil butter, cocoa, milk and vanilla. Add ¾ box powdered sugar and beat will. Leave thinner than normal, pour over cake while hot.
